TRAVEL BUGS

Venice Heritage Launches Centennial Projects

On January 9, 2026 Venice Heritage will be sending some important folks in Venice history back to where they came from.  As part of the international phenomena of geocaching, we will be launching three travel bugs—representing John Nolen, Dr. Fred Albee, and Bertha Palmer—from Venice.  The Nolen travel bug has a goal to reach Cambridge, MA. The Albee travel bug has a goal to reach Colonia, NJ.  The Bertha Palmer travel bug has a goal of reaching Chicago, IL.

Geocaching is a recreational activity where people seek out hidden containers, or caches, using Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) coordinates.  Once found, people can log it and trade trinkets that are in the caches or help move travel bugs along to their destination. We will be tracking the progress of these travel bugs with updates in the newsletter and on social media.  For those who wish to participate or follow on their own, you can set up an account at Geocaching.com.
